The Temptations Plot: The Temptations (1998) is about three friends who all move to New York City in late 1967 to take advantage of a booming music industry. The first to find fame is bassist Melvin Franklin who forms the Temptations. He soon has a number one hit with "I Can't Get Next To You". The next band member, Paul Williams, starts off as a solo vocalist but soon loses his mind and has a major breakdown. After several years of being out of music, Williams returns as an emcee, calling himself Papa San and flirting with disco. The last band member, Otis Williams, also forms a group and things really begin to change for the Temptations. The group decides to go in a more rock and roll direction and Otis' brother becomes their new lead singer. His first record is a top 3 hit with "Cloud Nine". After Paul Williams commits suicide on stage, the group begins to fight amongst themselves. Otis is soon fired on his wife's wishes since he was the first one of them all to have success as a solo artist. This can end up bad for the Temptations when it's revealed that Otis has cheated on his wife with a much younger woman.
